Pesto Hummus 



Hummus is a staple while cleansing. It can be eaten as a snack with vegetables or added to bowls and salads for flavour, texture or additional calories. At the beginning of cleansing, it may feel challenging to get enough flavour into your meals besides salt and pepper. Basil adds an element of freshness and the cashews/walnuts are quite savory, so the combination is quite spectacular. 


Ingredients: 

  • 1.5 cup cooked garbanzo beans
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup cashews or walnuts 
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 
  • 1/4 cup olive oil 
  • Salt to taste 

Directions: 

• Put half the garbanzo beans and everything else in a blender or food processor. This batch will get very creamy. 

• Then add in second half of beans. Your blender may start making sad noises, so give it a good shake and then blend again. 



Tips: 

• Choose one day of the week to pre-cook dried beans. Either soak beans over night and take the morning to cook them or soak beans during the day and cook them in the evening. 

• Beans can take a couple hours to cook, take this time to really appreciate your hOMe (both the physical environment and your body) 

• Consider investing in a jar spatula, as the long handle will help with scraping and skinnier end is able to maneuver around the blade at the bottom of blenders

What I have learned from the Sattva practice is to always reflect and ask "Why?" In February 2017, I moved from deep freeze Alberta winter to eternal summer in the Caribbean. At first, it felt amazing!! And then my body was like "wow, we're staying?". It was a bit of a shock to the system. My skin broke out, I had a tough time sleeping and my throat felt dry and scratchy. So, I decided to listen to my body and do a bit of a reset on my system by cleansing. I am very thankful for the support of  the Sattva Online community, as it has kept me grounded to my practice. My hope is to share my journey and creations with you and be a resource of information. What I have to offer is just a simple base of ingredients and directions . So remember to tune into your own taste and, texture preferences and be creative.
